SUMMARY:What is Transformative Change? With Hannah Gosnell
DESCRIPTION:What is Transformative Change? Views\, Structures and Practices for a Just and Sustainable World \nIn 2024\, over 100 experts from around the world completed the landmark Transformative Change Assessment\, convened by the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES). The assessment explores how humanity can respond to the current polycrisis and shift toward a just and sustainable world for nature and people. Committed to addressing the underlying causes of nature’s decline\, including disconnection from and domination over nature and people\, it takes an integral\, principled approach to identifying strategies and actions for transformative change\, spanning shifts in views\, structures and practices. These include moving from relations of domination to relations of care\, recognizing and strengthening human-nature interconnection\, and committing to biocultural conservation and regeneration. \nIn this session\, Hannah Gosnell\, a Coordinating Lead Author of the assessment\, will offer an accessible introduction to its key findings and explore their relevance to transforming food systems. We’ll then move into dialogue and small-group reflection on what this means for our own lives and practice as change facilitators. Where do the underlying causes of nature’s decline show up in our personal and professional lives? And where might our own contribution to transformative change begin? \n \nHannah Gosnell is a Professor of Geography in the College of Earth\, Ocean\, and Atmospheric Sciences at Oregon State University who studies the human dimensions of natural resource management\, climate change and biodiversity conservation. Dr. Gosnell is an expert on social-ecological transformation and recently served as a Coordinating Lead Author for the UN Intergovernmental Science Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Transformative Change Assessment. She is particularly interested in the social\, cultural\, and psychological aspects of transitions to regenerative agriculture and the implications for landowners’ capacity to adapt to social\, economic and environmental change. As a Scholar with the Nova Institute for Health\, she is currently exploring how we can transform exploitative food systems into systems of reciprocity\, regeneration\, and care for nature and people. Dr. Gosnell earned her MA and PhD in Geography from the University of Colorado\, and a BA from Brown University. \n  \nJoin us in Nurturing the Fields of Change\nAlef Trust’s community of prctice for holistic transformation and social change\nhttps://fieldsofchange.sutra.co \nWe look forward to your participation!

SUMMARY:Reflective Session - What is Transformative Change?
DESCRIPTION:Following our previous session\, we’ll deepen our multidimensional and embodied exploration of today’s theme. This is a space for sharing personal experiences and practices\, listening to each other’s stories\, and exploring how the ideas land in our own lives\, both in smaller breakout rooms and in the larger group. Our monthly reflective sessions are a chance to connect more closely as a community—getting to know one another\, learning from each other\, and weaving the threads of our shared journey. \nJoin us in Nurturing the Fields of Change\nAlef Trust’s community of prctice for holistic transformation and social change\nhttps://fieldsofchange.sutra.co \nWe look forward to your participation!
