SUMMARY:Inner Acres: Embodiment\, land connection\, and learning to live within plantary boundaries
DESCRIPTION:Following the Global Conscious Food Systems Summit in Bhutan\, this session led by Dan McTiernan continues an emerging global conversation about the deeper human dimensions of ecological and systems transformation. Food systems\, climate instability\, and human wellbeing are profoundly entangled\, and many of us are recognising that technological innovation and policy change alone are not enough to halt degradation of our earth’s life support systems. We understand that the crises we face are fundamentally crises of relationship\, perception\, and imagination. \nModern societies often ask human beings to function as machines: productive\, efficient\, fast\, and disconnected from body\, emotion\, place\, and the wider living world. Even within ecological and regenerative movements these same patterns can persist\, reproducing exhaustion\, fragmentation\, and extractive ways of relating. \nDrawing on learning emerging from Inner Acres\, a UK-based initiative supporting wellbeing and food systems transformation\, this session explores embodied presence and land connection as foundations for resilience\, ecological participation\, and more regenerative ways working. \nPilot research in Inner Acres revealed that under chronic pressure – financial precarity\, ecological uncertainty\, social isolation\, and relentless productivity demands – farmers gradually disconnect from their embodied and ecological intelligence as a survival strategy. Yet this narrowing of perception also reduces capacity for creativity\, responsiveness\, and long-term stewardship. At the same time\, when invited into practices of embodied presence\, many people rediscovered place-based presence and intuitive ways of relating. In this session we will explore questions such as: \nHow do chronic stress and survival pressures shape perception and ecological behaviour?\nWhat forms of attention and practice help restore relationship with land\, body\, and community?\nWhat can living systems teach us about resilience\, adaptation\, and mutual flourishing?\nWhat might it mean to live and work within planetary boundaries? \nAt a time when ecological crises increasingly intersect with crises of meaning\, loneliness\, burnout\, and social fragmentation\, this session explores regeneration as a re-rooting into our place and our Inner Acres. \nJoin us in Nurturing the Fields of Change\,\nAlef Trust’s community of practice for holistic transformation and social change at \nhttps://fieldsofchange.sutra.co \nWe look forward to your participation

SUMMARY:Followership as Systems Literacy with Pedro Portela
DESCRIPTION:Most management schools teach leadership as control. But complex systems don’t respond to control-they respond to attention\, adaptation\, and the capacity to follow emergence. This means followership isn’t a soft skill or a nice-to-have. It’s a literacy problem: if your identity is built on being the decider\, you literally cannot read what’s happening in a complex system. You’re too busy protecting the role. \nThis session starts there-not with “leaders should listen more\,” but with the harder question: what dies when you stop being the person in control? What identity are you defending? And what becomes possible on the other side of that death? \nWe’ll work with complexity theory\, embodied practice\, and the real barriers organizations face when they try to shift from hierarchy to distributed leadership. The focus is concrete and relational: what actually has to shift in how you show up\, how you listen\, how you make decisions together-and what that costs. \nPedro Portela is a mechanical engineer turned systems thinker and co-founder of the School of Systems and Complexity (SSC). After a sabbatical decade exploring systems science\, complexity\, and peacebuilding-including fieldwork in South Sudan and studies at Schumacher College-he now works at the intersection of complexity theory\, social change\, and the interior transformation required to live with uncertainty. His background spans aerospace R&D\, permaculture design\, transpersonal coaching psychology (Alef Trust)\, and facilitation\, informing his conviction that understanding complex systems demands both intellectual rigor and ontological shifts in how we relate to control\, identity\, and not-knowing. \n✨This webinar is part of Alef Trust’s Living Organisations Lab series of live sessions oriented towards transpersonal perspectives that support conscious leadership\, systems change\, and sustainable impact. \n  \nJoin us in Nurturing the Fields of Change\,\nAlef Trust’s community of practice for holistic transformation and social change at \nhttps://fieldsofchange.sutra.co \nWe look forward to your participation ✨
