Initiating an Initiation Culture: Generative Rituals for our Age

September 15, 2025 @ 3:00 pm - 4:15 pm BST

We live in a liminal age, leaving behind linear framings of progress and facing crises that act as initiatory thresholds. As mythologist and storyteller Michael Meade reminds us, without rituals for initiation a culture remains in adolescence; and without initiation, crises appear as breakdowns rather than breakthroughs.

This session explores how we might re-create initiation cultures for our time: embodied, ecological, and communal. Drawing on NFC’s earlier reflections, we’ll consider seeds of new ritual forms, alongside the shadows and risks of altered states. And we’ll explore together what it takes to co-create rituals practices that are grounded in reciprocity and care, helping us to cross thresholds together toward collective maturity.

Reflective Session
16:30 – 17:30 BST

Following the main session, we’ll deepen into the theme of generative rituals that can support our initiation into more expansive ways of being together. This is a space for sharing personal experiences and practices, listening to each other’s stories, and exploring how the ideas land in our own lives, both in smaller breakout rooms and in the larger group. Our monthly reflective sessions are a chance to connect more closely as a community—getting to know one another, learning from each other, and weaving the threads of our shared journey.
