SUMMARY:The Waters We Swim In: Culture\, power\, and the social fields shaping our collective life
DESCRIPTION:Institutional cultures\, inherited narratives\, economic pressures\, social norms\, trauma histories\, and emotional climates all shape what we feel able to perceive\, say\, or do. In times of instability these forces often intensify\, narrowing imagination\, suppressing dissent\, and rewarding adaptation over genuine transformation. \nBut over time\, difficult systems do more than constrain action externally. They begin to shape inner life itself: influencing attention\, behaviour\, relationships\, and even constraining our sense of what change can look like. \nThis session explores what happens psychologically and socially when people attempt to create meaningful change within systems that repeatedly absorb\, neutralise\, fragment\, or exhaust transformative efforts. \nTogether\, we will explore: \n\n\nWhat happens to individuals and communities living for long periods inside environments shaped by chronic pressure\, contradiction\, and institutional defensiveness? \n\n\nHow do systems quietly train people into silence\, compliance\, performance\, or exhaustion? \n\n\nWhy do transformative visions so often become diluted over time? \n\n\nWhat helps people remain ethically awake without collapsing into cynicism or burnout? \n\n\nAnd what kinds of relational cultures make deeper transformation genuinely possible? \n\n\nDeepening our earlier explorations\, this session invites us into the deeper waters shaping our collective life. We will explore how systems change us – rather than how we can change them.
